About Orthodox Daily
A Tool for the Journey
Orthodox Daily began as something I built for myself—an Orthodox Christian layman trying to follow Jesus Christ in the midst of modern life. Like many who seek to walk The Way, I found myself struggling to weave together daily prayer, scripture reading, the wisdom of the saints, and other spiritual praxes into a rhythm that actually worked.
This app is my attempt to craft a life of discipleship, one day at a time. I am an Orthodox Christian and am in community with my local parish and the leadership of my priest and spiritual father, and am grateful for his guidance and support for this project and my life.
Built for One, Shared with Many
I'm building this for an audience of one—me. But I believe that's exactly what makes it authentic. When we create something from our own genuine need to grow closer to Christ, it often resonates with others walking the same path.
If you're someone who:
- Wants to encounter Christ through daily scripture but struggles with consistency
- Seeks inspiration from the saints' stories without the formal, distant language
- Desires a rhythm of prayer that feels alive and personal
- Values Orthodox wisdom while needing fresh, accessible ways to engage with it
...then what helps me might help you too.
The Heart Behind the Tool
I believe this work is part of my mission from the Lord—to create something that serves those who genuinely wish to follow Jesus Christ. Not as a replacement for the Church, spiritual fathers, or genuine human community, but as a tool that supports the daily discipline of discipleship.
Orthodoxy and Orthodoxy
There's a beautiful distinction between "Orthodoxy" (the ancient faith handed down through the centuries) and "orthodoxy" (the broader sense of right belief and practice). Orthodox Daily draws from Orthodox Christian tradition—the prayers of the Horologion, the lives of the saints from the Synaxarion, the liturgical calendar—while presenting these treasures in language that invites rather than intimidates.
We honor the tradition by making it accessible, not by keeping it locked away.
What You'll Find Here
Walking the Way - Stories of the saints that inspire action rather than distant admiration. How did they follow Christ? What can their struggles and victories teach us about our own journey?
Praying the Way - Daily calls to God drawn from Orthodox tradition, presented as living conversations rather than formal recitations. Morning prayers, occasional prayers, and liturgical treasures made personal.
Reading the Way - Daily scripture readings aligned with the Orthodox liturgical calendar, offered as encounters with the living Word rather than academic study.
A Personal Invitation
This isn't about becoming Orthodox (though you're welcome to explore). This isn't about replacing your current spiritual practices (though it might enrich them). This is about one person's attempt to follow Jesus more faithfully, shared in case it helps others do the same.
I'm learning that discipleship is both deeply personal and thoroughly communal—we each must walk our own path, but we don't walk alone. The saints who've gone before us, the prayers that have sustained generations, the scriptures that continue to speak—they're all companions on the journey.
The Technology Serves the Mission
You'll notice we use technology thoughtfully here. AI helps with questions about using the app, but it doesn't attempt to provide spiritual guidance. Traditional liturgical terms organize our content behind the scenes (because precision matters), while the interface speaks in the warm, invitational language of someone who genuinely wants to help.
We believe technology should serve human flourishing, not replace human connection. This tool aims to support your relationship with God and prepare you for deeper engagement with real community—not substitute for it.
Join the Journey
Whether you're just curious about faith, new to Orthodox Christianity, or a seasoned believer looking for fresh ways to engage with ancient wisdom, you're welcome here. Take what helps, leave what doesn't, and know that you're walking alongside others who are also learning what it means to follow Christ.
The Way is long, but we don't walk it alone.
"And he said to all, 'If anyone wants to come after me, let him deny himself and take up his cross daily and follow me.'" - Luke 9:23
